Comprehensive Article Summary by Jaxza Team

With the soaring prices of gas, people are beginning to pay close attention to their gas consumption and search for ways to increase their mileage. Over the years many studies have been conducted on which gas saving tips work best and which have little to no impact what so ever. In this article you will discover the top 10 gas saving tips to help keep more money in your pocket.

Saving Gas Tip #1: Convert your car to a Hydrogen Hybrid.
If you have done any research online within the past year on gas saving tips you have probably ran across websites offering Hydrogen Kits for cars and trucks. These are DIY kits that can be built for less then 0 using parts found at your local Home Depot. If you are not familiar with these kits I highly recommend checking them out. Many people claim to increase their gas mileage by 35 - 40%.

Saving Gas Tip #2: Keep your tires properly inflated.
Buy a quality tire gauge and check the pressure of your tires. Make sure they are inflated according to the manufactures recommendations. Under inflated tires require additional horsepower to rotate, thus consuming more gas. Most cars list the recommend tire pressure on a plate on the inside driver’s door. If you cannot locate it their it will be listed in the owner’s manual.

Saving Gas Tip #3: Lighten up your load by removing unnecessary weight.
Don’t go crazy and rip out your back seats or the insulation but get rid of anything in your trunk, glove box or in the back of your car that you absolutely don’t need. Shedding off weight allows your engine to not work as hard to accelerate the car forward thus using less fuel. This won’t be a huge savings unless you make it a habit of keeping your trunk full of crap - but every bit helps and will add up.

Saving Gas Tip #4: Slow down Mario Andretti
Accelerating aggressively forces your vehicle to use maximum gas to achieve your desired speed. Many test have proven that gradual acceleration has a significant impact on your gas consumption so slow down and see what kind of saving you achieve.

Saving Gas Tip #5: Turn on cruise control when you can.
You will get your best mileage when using your cruise control but only is you are traveling on a straight road without hills. If there is minimal traffic and you are on a long stretch of highway then turn it on and reap the rewards. Using cruise control in high traffic or roads with hill will have the opposite effect due to the car constantly accelerating/de-accelerating to maintain your set speed.

Saving Gas Tip #6: Fill up at the coolest time of day.
Fuel is denser when it’s cool so filling up in the morning or late evening will allow more fuel in your tank.

Saving Gas Tip #7: Remove bicycle or ski racks when not being used.
Not only will removing the extra weight help but more important you will be reducing the drag making your vehicle more aerodynamic. This could have a significant savings over a long trip.

Saving Gas Tip #8: How about carpooling?
This is not always the preferred method due to inconvenient sometimes, but it’s the single most efficient way to reduce your monthly fuel cost.

Saving Gas Tip #9: Cash in by getting a credit card with 5% rebates on gas,
Here is an easy way to knock off 5% off your fuel cost by using it for all your fill ups.

Saving Gas Tip #10: Give your car a tune up.

This is only beneficial if your vehicle is due for a tune-up so don’t go out and spend money on a tune up if you just had one several thousand miles ago.

Gas prices have recently dropped with our slowing economy. At roughly .70 a gallon, it has been a minor relief for our pocket books. Yet OPEC recently cut production, which will cause prices to rise in the near term.

OPEC’s price targets will matter less as production itself becomes challenged, no matter how much they want to produce.

Yields Are Still Declining
The world’s mature oil fields that produce most of the world’s oil face production declines, with the prime fields showing a declining yield. Although oil exploration has been a priority, new infrastructure will be a long time coming before it can reach more recent finds like the Tupi field off Brazil’s coast.

Enjoy this brief lull in gas prices before they begin to rise again.

As gas prices rise, our money flows out of our pockets and into the gas tank. You’ve already switched to cheaper gas, emptied the junk out of your car to reduce its weight, and consolidated trips. Saving money on fuel costs doesn’t mean ditching the car just yet.

Here are a few tips to saving yourself gas money:
Work from home. Review what you do at your job. Compile a list of regularly occurring paperwork that can be done from home. Offer to work from home on a slow day and be extremely productive.
If all goes well, offer to work from home 1 day every 2 weeks. If that works, offer to increase it to one day a week. If working from home is allowed once every 2 weeks, you have still reduced commuting costs 10%.
If you can manage once a week, you’ve saved 20%.

As vacations roll around, stay local. Contact your local tourist bureau for all the attractions down the street and around the corner. You could find a good time without finding yourself far from home.

Ride a bike. If you have a motorcycle in storage, save on gas and storage fees. Try commuting to work on two motorized wheels instead of four. Motorcycles get better gas mileage than cars.
If you are close enough to your work or your school to ride a bicycle, take that route and benefit from the exercise while you are at it!

Car pool and rotate between houses for social gatherings. Look at who you are going to visit regularly. Offer your friends and family to reciprocate the trip. Sharing the pain of gas prices is caring for each other’s budget. If more than one of your, your friends and your family are going in the same direction, you can car pool.

Unless they are used at least once a month, take bike racks and trailer hitches off the car. Save the weight and the gas it takes to haul that weight from point A to point B per day.

Short of buying a horse or considering your pet a passenger for sake of the HOV lane, there are still simple, straightforward AND sane gas saving ideas left.
